COVID-19 Statistics Update, September 11, 2020

OSWEGO COUNTY – According to the Oswego County Health Department, as of 3 p.m., there have been 21 additional cases of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) since yesterday.

The cumulative reported number 415 is cases across the county and of those, 319 have recovered and four have died.

Most of the cases reported today came from SUNY Oswego and one case from St. Francis Assisted Living Facility.

“We continue to conduct regular testing according to county health department guidelines and promptly notify our staff, residents and families in the event of a positive result in keeping with our protocol,” said Terry Gorman, CEO of St. Francis Assisted Living Facility.

The Oswego County Health Department is investigating a potential exposure to the COVID-19 virus at Fajita Grill in Oswego.

An employee of Fajita Grill at 244 W. Seneca St. in Oswego has tested positive for the coronavirus. People who visited the restaurant on Tuesday, Sept. 8 between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. may have been exposed. More information can be found here.

Today’s statistics are below:

Oswego County: (as of 3 p.m.) Note, the total number of positive cases is cumulative and the number of recoveries and deaths are of those numbers.

  • Total # of active cases: 92 (yesterday: 82)
  • Total # of positive cases: 415 (yesterday: 394)
  • Total # of recoveries: 319 (yesterday: 308)
  • Total # of hospitalizations: 28 (no change from yesterday)
  • Total # of deaths: 4 (no change from yesterday)
  • Total # tests: 41,158 (yesterday: 40,143)
  • Total # of negative results: 40,559 (yesterday: 39,573)
  • Total # of people in mandatory isolation/quarantine: 269 (yesterday: 256)
  • Total # of positive antibody tests: 82 (as of Sept. 10)
  • Total # of negative antibody tests: 3,281 (as of Sept. 10)

The county has stopped releasing data for pending results, number of people in precautionary quarantine and total number completed/released from monitoring. Data will not be released on Saturdays or Sundays. Antibody test results are released once a week.

In the event that a person who tests positive for COVID-19 had public exposure when they were contagious and the health department could not contact those at risk individually, a news release is issued. Investigations go back two days prior to symptom onset for symptomatic positive patients, or two days prior to testing for asymptomatic positive patients, up until the time a positive patient is isolated.

SUNY Oswego Statistics: (as of 5:30 p.m.)

  • Total number of tests: 6,311 (yesterday: 6,290)
  • Total number of cumulative confirmed cases since Aug. 12: 96
  • Total number of active confirmed cases Aug. 28 to Sept. 11: 93 (yesterday: 75)
    • students living on-campus: 59 (yesterday: 51)
    • students living off-campus while taking classes on-campus: 23 (yesterday: 15)
    • employees working on-campus: 0 (yesterday: 0)
    • students living off-campus learning remotely: 11 (yesterday: 9)
    • employees working remotely: 0 (yesterday: 0)
  • Total number of students in on-campus quarantine: 63 (yesterday: 64)
  • Total number of students in on-campus isolation: 55 (yesterday: 49)

Total on-campus cases counting toward the NYS 100-case threshold to move to remote learning: 82

The New York State Department of Health’s guidance states that colleges and universities must transition all in-person learning to remote, when 100 members of the on-campus population – inclusive of students, faculty, and staff – test positive for COVID-19 within a 14-day period. According to this guidance, only active cases at SUNY Oswego that are characterized as on-campus would count toward the 100 metric.

The college has not released information on their dashboard regarding how many off-campus students are in quarantine/isolation.

Other updates from the state include:

  • Governor Cuomo has partnered with New Jersey Governor Murphy and Connecticut Governor Lamont to create a joint travel advisory for individuals traveling from states with significant community spread of COVID-19, requiring a quarantine for 14 days when visiting their states.
  • Based on each region’s infection rate, schools across New York State are permitted to open this fall but each school district must have a testing and tracing plan and will decide if an in-person v. hybrid model works best for them while following strict Department of Health Guidance.
  • Indoor dining in New York City will be allowed to reopen starting September 30 with a 25 percent occupancy but will be subject to strict safety protocols.
