Fire At Schoeller Paper Contained To Pipe

Volunteer departments assist -

PULASKI– A fire at Felix Schoeller Paper in Pulaski this afternoon drew nine volunteer fire departments to the site at 179 County Route 2A and was extinguished before it spread from duct work to the building.
Oswego County Fire Coordinator Shane Laws said a fire started by a motor got into waste-paper duct work. Workers pulled the alarm and evacuated the building. “There were no injuries, and the fire was contained to the duct work for paper machines,” he said. “It was contained to the pipe – there was no extension to the building or exterior.”
The alarm was called in at 3:35 p.m. as a fire in an electrical motor. When the Ringgold Fire Company of Pulaski arrived on scene, the chief saw smoke coming from the building and called in a structure fire.
Nine volunteer departments assisted at the scene. They included Ringgold of Pulaski, Parish, Sandy Creek, Mexico with both an engine and the county cascade truck, Altmar, Richland, Lacona, and Adams of Jefferson County. Redfield Fire Department was on standby for the area.
Also assisting were the county fire coordinator’s office, Sheriff’s Department including its drone program, the Novelis Fire Department’s drone program, State Police, and NOCA Ambulance.
“The fire was contained 80 minutes after the call came in,” Laws said. “We appreciate everyone’s assistance to keep this contained. The departments work well together in this type of incident.”
