FULTON – The City of Fulton Republican committee met last night and endorsed Nick Barnes as 1st Ward Councilor candidate and Kim Gibbs as 5th Ward Councilor candidate to run in the November 3 general election. The committee had an opportunity to endorse candidates after two common councilors resigned from their positions earlier this year. Both Barnes and Gibbs will appear on the Republican line on the ballot in November. The committee’s support for both was unanimous.

“To have two great candidates come forward who have a business mindset, financial experience, and a positive attitude is a blessing for our city.  We need good people who will help to serve the city and its constituents and I’m thrilled these two have stepped up. Our committee will do whatever we can to help see both Kim and Nick elected,” said Chair Beth Nicholson.

Earlier this year, the committee endorsed county legislative candidates who represent portions of the City of Fulton which include Holly Carpenter, District 11; Mike Solowy, incumbent, District 23; Dan Shue, District 22 and Ethan Parkhurst District 25.

Kim Gibbs is a property owner, a landlord, and in her construction profession, works closely with the Landbank–an organization that reinvests in housing to revitalize neighborhoods.

“As a homeowner, landlord, entrepreneur, office manager in construction and someone with an accounting background, I understand the importance of planning, accountability, and working hard to achieve results. I’ve experienced the challenges of owning property, operating a business, and navigating local government first hand,” said Gibbs.

Nick Barnes is a certified financial planner with a masters in accounting.  He has coached youth sports for more than 5 years and wants to improve the city for all of the kids.  He was born and raised here.

“I am running because if change is not implemented soon, we may be running out of time.  My only desire is to see change for the better get done for Fulton.  Fulton has a lot of potential and the children reassure me of that.  There needs to be more transparency in the city and that is my goal to help see that though and be available for the residents with valid concerns,” said Barnes.
