FULTON, NY – CNY Arts Center has been looking to expand for a while, and with the addition of CNY Arts Gallery, located at 47 First St., that goal is being realized.
The original location of CNY Arts is at the State Street Church in Fulton and is a space where classes are held and the staff offices are located.
“We didn’t have enough space for our artists to display work,” explained Bonnie McClellen, the gallery coordinator.
The gallery hosts artwork created by local artists in a variety of mediums from paintings to photography and all the items are for sale.
“We would like to open the public’s awareness to local artists they might not know about,” McClellan added.
Joe Galvin and Drew are two of the artists with work at the gallery and are excited to be a part of ARTS in the HeART.
Drew called the space “important for future generations.”
“It brings people in and is good for the economy,” Galvin’s wife added.
Both artists have a unique aesthetic; Drew mainly works in pen and ink and Galvin paints and sketches on top of owning Studio 51 tattoo shop in Fulton.
Drew and Galvin are looking forward to the gallery expanding and welcoming new artists and different genres and mediums of art.
“Not that there’s not a wide variety already,” Galvin said. “But more is always better.”
“We have room for several more artists to join,” McClellan said.
The gallery hosted its open house on June first and ribbon cutting on Wednesday.
In attendance at the ribbon cutting were representatives from local government, CNY Arts Center board members, local artists whose work is displayed at the gallery and various CNY Arts and community members.
“The community is happy to have us here,” said CNY Arts Center executive director Nancy Fox. “We’re all arts for all ages. One day we want to bring everyone together under one roof.”
