Do This Saturday: Kick Off Hannibal’s Anniversary

The Hannibal Beautification Committee has been busy designing new banners in celebration of the village's sesquicentennial anniversary. The banner depicts the downtown area around 1860 when people came into town with their horse and buggies. The 10 new banners will be hung this weekend to help kick-off the official celebration. Hannibal turns 150 on Saturday and will throw a party to celebrate.

The village begins its sesquicentennial celebration Saturday afternoon by unveiling a new book on the village’s history.  The book is called “Pictorial History of Hannibal, NY” by town and village historian and former Mayor Lowell Newvine.

Newvine will sign copies of the book for those who buy them.

Also at the celebration, people will be able to buy raffle tickets for a unique item.  Local painter and crafter Rachelle Pitcher created a chest decorated with images of Hannibal’s past.

The raffle will run through August.

Earlier in the day, anyone stopping by the Post Office will be able to have a special Hannibal Sesquicentennial stamp added to their letter.  It does not take the place of a regular stamp, but is a decoration created especially for the anniversary celebration.
