Fulton City Council Members Crossing Party Lines in County Legislature Race

Ryan Taylor, Candidate for the 25th District position in the Oswego County Legislature, is pleased to announce that he is being supported by the three Council Members that represent the wards in this East Side seat. Councilmembers Jeff Cobb (4th Ward), Audrey Avery (5th Ward) and Jonathan Weldin (6th Ward), are all registered Republicans that are publicly supporting Taylor (a Democrat) running for office.

Ryan Taylor was elected and served as the 6th Ward City Councilman in 2024. As a member of the council, he was extremely proactive doing whatever it took to help clean up the neighborhoods, reduce homelessness, increase public safety initiatives and more . It was during this time that he also worked with the other East Side councilors (A. Avery and J. Cobb) all striving towards the same goals.

Earlier this year, it was discovered that that part of the Fulton street that Councilman Taylor resided in, was erroneously listed by the County Board of Elections as being in the 6th ward. He resigned his seat since his neighborhood was actually in the 5th ward. Even though there was no nefarious intentions on his part, he could have served until the end of 2025 when the term ended. He decided to step aside and recommended to the Mayor to appoint Jonathan Weldin, a 6th ward resident who was not a member of Taylor’s political party.

“I felt that Mr. Weldin was the best person for the job, and the fact that he is a republican did not matter to me.” said Taylor.

Ryan Taylor has always advocated “People before Politics” when it comes to public service. “I don’t look at party registration, I just want to do right by everybody. It has always been my goal to “Seek Common Ground.” As a County Legislator, I will continue to live by those words.”
