FULTON, NY – Hunter Arms was recognized during the regularly scheduled Fulton Common Council meeting last night Tuesday, August 1; a proclamation read by Mayor Deanna Michaels declaring Aug. 11-12 as Hunter Arms Homecoming Weekend.

According to the pronouncement read by Michaels, the Hunter Arms manufacturing company moved their business to Fulton in 1889, becoming famous worldwide for the manufacture of the L.C. Smith double-barrel shotgun.

“Now therefore I, Deanna Michaels, Mayor of the City of Fulton NY, on behalf of the Fulton Common Council and its residents, recognize Friday, August 11, 2023 and Saturday, August 12, 2023 as Hunter Arms Homecoming Weekend. And the City of Fulton would like to recognize and thank the Friends of History for sponsoring this event and encouraging the public to attend the homecoming to publicly view the displays from the L.C. Smith Collection Association,” Michaels read.

Also passed during last night’s meeting was a resolution authorizing the Fulton Director of Parks and Recreation on the placement of the former Fulton Gauchos Drum and Bugle Corps sculpture and associated signage.

According to Wesley Dean of Fulton – former Gauchos Drum and Bugle Corps percussionist; the Gauchos organization formed in 1960, with Dean joining the corps in 1968, playing three different instruments throughout his tenure until 1977.

The wildly popular Gauchos Drum and Bugle Corps drew people from as far away as Binghamton, NY to become members; with 1976 becoming one of their biggest years to date – the corps attending over forty events between May and August of that year.

According to Dean, rising costs eventually became the demise of the organization; with fundraisers no longer holding the line financially for the group. Dean has planned a reunion this year with former Gaucho members gathering together at The Yard at Lakeview Lanes in Fulton.

“This will be our fourth reunion since 1995,” Dean said. “We have over 110 reservations with people as far away as Texas, California, Florida, [and] Virginia, and there’s one drummer that marched in the 80’s who’s in Japan, who we haven’t heard from yet,” Dean said “Of course, the Tryniski family were monumental in the Gaucho organization; growing and succeeding and everything with that for all those years in the 70’s. And then I was the one that Ed Tryniski handed the baton to.”

The Gauchos Drum and Bugle Corps reunion will be held on August 26, 2023.

Following is the list of resolutions passed during Tuesday evenings meeting. All resolutions unanimously passed, with two resolutions passing by a 5/1 vote:
