FULTON, NY – The Fulton City School District Board of Education unanimously accepted the resignation of four district employees including the principal of Fulton Junior High School, Ryan Lanigan at Tuesday’s regular board meeting (Sept. 13.)

Lanigan’s resignation will become effective October 7 and school officials are in the beginning stages of the process to finding a replacement.

“We’re having to start a process to replace somebody that I’ve learned in my very short two months here, has set some very high expectations and standards. The process is about identifying the most highly qualified and best candidate we can,” Superintendent Brian Pulvino said at the meeting.

Pulvino referred to Lanigan’s position as a “pivotal point in the district” as it is the middle point where a strong connection has been made between the junior and senior high as well as between the elementary schools as they come together and feed into the junior high school.

“Ryan is going to be missed, he has also set the bar for which we will strive to replace him very high,” Pulvino said.

FCSD Director of Personnel Thomas Greer said that the district has initiated a posting to advertise for the position and is set to close that by October 3, but the board of education will be updated on the process of finding a replacement at the next (Sept. 27) board meeting.

It is likely an interim principal will be needed as the process continues, which is not unusual to do in school systems, especially for administrative positions, he explained.

Greer said the interim position will be approached quickly and Pulvino confirmed as he said he hopes to bring a name to present the board of education regarding the interim position at the next meeting as well.

Lanigan has been principal of the Fulton Junior High School since he moved up from assistant principal in January 2012.

“I absolutely can’t thank this district enough for the opportunity I was given here and the belief they have always had in me. It’s been a privilege to lead the students and staff of the Junior High School. It’s been a truly wonderful experience,” Lanigan said.

  1. Once again a huge loss for our District. Fulton has had issues with being able to keep quality leaders. Didn’t the former principal of Lanigan School, Mr. Briggs also go to the Mexico District?
