Fulton Man Arrested After Fatal Hit And Run Crash In Hannibal

HANNIBAL, NY – Late last night, September 19, at 12:34 a.m., State Police responded to State Route 176 in the town of Hannibal for a car/pedestrian crash, of which resulted in the death of a teenager, the hospitalization of another teenager and the arrest of a Fulton man.

The investigation has revealed, a 2015 Dodge Ram pickup truck, operated by Christopher J. Rogers II, 29, of Fulton, was traveling on State Route 176 when he struck two of the three pedestrians that were walking along the shoulder of State Route 176, and immediately left the scene without stopping.

Kaydence E. Nichols, 16, from Hannibal, suffered fatal injuries as a result of being struck and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Riley P. Trumble, 17, from Hannibal, was also struck simultaneously and suffered severe injuries. Trumble was transported to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse by Menter Ambulance and remains in critical but stable condition.

The suspect vehicle and operator were located a short time later by troopers with assistance from the City of Fulton Police Department. The operator of the vehicle, Rogers, of 217 Germandale Drive, Fulton, was subsequently arrested for the following charges:

• Vehicular Manslaughter 2^nd  degree – class “D” felony
• Vehicular Assault 2^nd  degree – class “E” felony
• Leaving the Scene of a Fatal Motor Vehicle Accident – class “D” felony
• Driving While Intoxicated, an unclassified misdemeanor

The State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Collision Reconstruction Unit responded to the scene and the investigation is continuing.  Assistance was provided by the City of Fulton Police, Oswego County Sheriff’s Office, Oswego County District Attorney’s Office, Hannibal Fire Company, and the Granby Center Fire Department.

The Hannibal Central School District has notified the study body regarding this incident. The District made counseling services available at the High School today, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and additionally beginning with the school day on Monday, September 21.

The State Police are looking to speak with the operator and/or occupants of a sedan that was traveling closely behind the suspect vehicle when this collision occurred. This sedan was traveling in a southwesterly direction behind a white Ram pickup truck with South Carolina license plates. Please contact State Police at 315-366-6000.
