FULTON, NY – City officials have recognized both the Salvation Army Christmas Kettle Fund Drive season as well as the Community Thanksgiving Dinner Day at the most recent regular meeting of the Fulton Common Council.
With Thanksgiving quickly approaching, a Mayoral Proclamation declaring a Community Thanksgiving Dinner Day gives residents of Fulton without a place to eat and enjoy the holiday, a chance to do so.
“State Street Methodist Church, Fulton Salvation Army, First United Church of Fulton and the Greater Fulton Area Council of Churches have joined forces with area churches and agencies to create a Community Thanksgiving Dinner for up to 300 people,” the proclamation read.
The dinner will take place on Thanksgiving day (Thursday, Nov 24) from noon until 2 p.m. at the First United Church of Fulton, located at 33 S. Third St.
The entire traditional Thanksgiving dinner including turkey, potatoes, stuffing, vegetables and an assortment of pies will be entirely planned, prepared, and served by community volunteers.
Event organizers are still looking for anyone willing to offer their time or make a donation to help make the dinner possible.

“This partnership is spearheading a community effort to provide an abundant and tasty Thanksgiving dinner, a time for friendship and fellowship that some people in our community would otherwise miss out on,” the proclamation continued.
The dinner is open to anyone and everyone in the community that faces financial hardship or otherwise will be alone or would like a place to enjoy the holiday with company and a hot meal.
The city continued in its efforts to give back with the Mayoral Proclamation of the 2016 Oswego County Salvation Army Christmas Kettle Fund Drive Season.
The Christmas Kettle Fund Drive will begin November 11 and run through Christmas Eve (Dec 24.)
The fund drive is a yearly funding effort hosted by the Salvation Army to help fulfill the Salvation Army’s mission to meet human needs without discrimination.
Volunteers sign up to ring the bell at local establishments where members of the public are able to donate money in to the Salvation Army kettle.
The funds raised will be completely reinvested in the Oswego County community for the purpose of operating the food and soup kitchen, providing clothes and food for those in need, distributing monthly food boxes, providing breakfast and lunch Monday through Thursday and providing toys for local children in need this holiday season.
According to the proclamation, the Christmas Kettle Fund Drive raised $79,200 for the Oswego County community during last year’s season with the intended goal to raise $80,000 during this year’s efforts.
Members of the Common Council and the mayor signed up as volunteers to ring the bell during the Christmas Kettle Fund Drive.
