FULTON, NY – Mayor Ronald Woodward Sr. and the Fulton Common Council officially proclaimed the week of October 10-16 as Knights of Columbus Week in the city of Fulton.
The proclamation comes as Saint Josephs Council, No. 254, Knights of Columbus in Fulton, NY, acknowledges its anniversary of 119 years since chartered in August 1, 1987 and Saint Josephs Assembly, No. 748, Knights of Columbus in Fulton, NY, acknowledges its anniversary of 106 years since being chartered on August 1, 1910.
The proclamation addressed the purpose of the Knights of Columbus “is to strengthen the faith among its members, promote fraternity among them and provide financial security for widows and children of the members; the order supports three ideals; charity, unity and fraternity,” as well as the purpose of the fourth degree to “promote Patriotism through personal development and continued honor of brother knights; and whereas the 4th Degree Color Corps that presents a visible reminder of our service to the community.”
These ideals are supported by the Knights of Columbus’ 1.9 million members in 15,100 councils in 17 countries, according to the proclamation.
The proclamation was presented as Mayor Woodward declared it in the best interest of the city to pay tribute to the Knights of Columbus “whose endeavors have faithfully served the welfare of the citizens of the city of Fulton.”
The Saint Joseph’s Council and Saint Joseph’s Assembly have served the Fulton community in their 119 and 106 years of service respectively by illustrating the Knight’s of Columbus ideals in such ways as assisting numerous local organizations in charitable work and making several financial contributions local, regional and national service programs.
