FULTON, NY – Fulton City School District qualified voters showed up to vote on the district’s proposed 2018-2019 budget, three open seats on the board of education, and a proposition to approve the purchase of two passenger vans.
Unofficial results show the $71,992,850 budget was approved by voters with 340 votes in favor and 142 against, several hundred fewer voters than the previous year.
With a spending increase of 1.71 percent, or $1,209,929 more than the current school year’s spending, the budget presents a 2.02 percent tax levy increase.
In terms of value, a homeowner who lives in a house assessed at $75,000 will see an increase of $24.17. However, following a negative tax levy from the last year’s budget, taxes will remain lower than they were in the 2016-2017 school year.
Three candidates ran for three open seats on the district’s board of education.
Newcomer Nicholas Degelorm received the most votes with 378 and will begin a three-year term on July 1, 2018.
Also a newcomer, Fallon Cooper received 362 votes and will begin a three-year term on July 1, 2018.
Incumbent Tim Crandell received 358 votes and will serve a one-year term to fulfill a resignation.
Voters also approved a transportation proposition to purchase two passengers vans at a price not to exceed $49,900 with 338 votes in favor and 141 votes against.
Propositions for the Fulton Public Library included the election of two library Board of Trustees and a tax proposition for the 2018-2019 year.
Two open seats for five-year terms commencing on July 1, 2018 for the Library Board of Trustees were secured by Patricia Kush and Carolyn Mosier with 365 and 352 votes, respectively.
Voters approved the Fulton Public Library Board of Trustees to expend the sum of $413,669 to operate the Fulton Public Library and to levy the necessary tax with 368 votes in favor and 110 votes against.
District officials will host a special meeting tomorrow (May 16) to present the election outcome beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Fulton Education Center located at 167 S. Fourth St.
