It’s an offer the Fulton City School District can’t turn down.
An energy savings firm has finished its analysis of the district’s buildings and concludes it can save Fulton taxpayers $3.3 million over 18 years.
Siemens is just wrapping up a 10 year deal to make district buildings more energy efficient. The deal saved $2.6 million, according to the company and the district. Siemens was paid only out of the savings. The company guarantees the savings. The amount saved in the first contract exceeded what Siemens guaranteed.
Company officials told the Board of Education recently that advances in technology make it possible to save even more energy and money.
Last week, they told the board that they could expect minimum annual energy savings of $179,206 and an 18 year savings of $3.3 million.
“It helps promote conservation and enhances our facilities,” said Superintendent of Schools Bill Lynch. “It saves our local taxpayers and the state money.”
Siemens will perform a more detailed audit by September. The board will receive a full report by December. If state approval happens on time, work could begin by July, 2011.
