Oswego County legislators today take up plans that could lead to property taxes being paid on the county’s three nuclear plants.
The plants, all in the town of Scriba, will pay no property taxes until at least 2016 under an agreement with the owners of the nuclear plants. Legislators will consider scrapping that law. Today, they’ll vote on whether to hold a public hearing on the issue, a required step in changing a local law.
Also today, legislators will vote on pay raises for three top county officials. County Sheriff Reuel “Mo” Todd, County Treasurer John Kruk and County Clerk George Williams would receive raises of 3 or 4%. It would bring their salaries to the mid-$70,000 range for Kruk and Williams, and just about $80,000 for Todd.
The Legislature will also vote on three bridge repair projects, to fix these bridges:
- The Pendergast Road bridge over Hinmansville Creek;
- The Myers Road bridge over Black Creek, and;
- The county Route 54 bridge over Fish Creek.
The three projects will cost more than $800,000.
The meeting begins at 2:00 p.m. in the county Legislature chambers in Oswego.
