Levea Sentenced To 6 – 18 Years For 2009 Fatal Crash

CAYUGA COUNTY – William Levea will likely spend the rest of his life behind bars.

The 80-year-old Fulton man was sentenced today in Cayuga County Court to 6 to 18 years in prison.

Levea was initially charged with second-degree murder in connection with the Nov. 20, 2009, drunk driving accident that claimed the life of Christopher Spack, 41.

In January, Levea struck a plea deal with the Cayuga County District Attorney’s Office. He pleaded guilty to felony vehicular homicide, DWI and criminal possession of a weapon in exchange for the lesser sentence.

He was also sentenced to a year each for DWI and criminal possession of a weapon. However, those sentences will run concurrently with the vehicular homicide sentence, according to a spokesperson for the Cayuga County District Attorney’s Office.

If convicted of the murder charge, Levea would have been facing a (maximum) sentence of  25 years to life.

According to the police reports: Levea had chased Spack’s vehicle from Onondaga County into Cayuga County, ramming the rear of the pickup truck several times until Spack lost control and collided with an oncoming vehicle on Route 370 in Cato.

Spack was pronounced dead at the scene.

Levea ‘s blood alcohol content, two hours after the crash, was still 0.16. missing or outdated ad config
