Marine Museum Lecture Covers “The Patriot War”

The second lecture of the H. Lee White Marine Museum’s 2008 lecture series will be presented Saturday afternoon, June 21, at 1:30 PM in the Pontiac Room at the Museum. Mercedes Niess, Director of the Museum, says, “We are pleased to continue to offer these lectures to the public free of charge”. The speaker is Dr. Robert Salisbury, and his topic will be “The Patriot War”.

The Patriot War was a series of battles that occurred in 1837, between Canadians who had come down from Upper Canada into Western New York State, and the British in Lower Canada. Many other people, including the French in Lower Canada, as well as many from Upper Canada, were also active in these battles.

Dr. Salisbury is an Oswego resident who teaches history at SUNY Oswego. He has taught college-level history for the past 25 years and has a PhD in History from the University of Minnesota. He has written a book and several journal articles about American history.

The H.
