New Roadside Marker Commemorates Pratt House National Register Designation

FULTON – Friends of History in Fulton, NY, Inc. has been awarded a grant from the William G. Pomeroy Foundation for a roadside marker commemorating the John Wells Pratt House’s inclusion on the National Register of Historic Places, the official list of the Nation’s historic places worthy of preservation.

The dedication will be held on Tuesday, September 15, 2020 at 3 p.m. on the front lawn at the Pratt House Museum, 177 South First Street, Fulton.

The Pratt House Museum is a circa 1861 Italianate style mansion featuring permanent and seasonal exhibits displaying local and surrounding area history. It is a well preserved example of Fulton’s residential architecture in the 19th century. The property was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1999. The Pratt House is the home of Friends of History in Fulton.

The Friends of History in Fulton, NY, Inc. is honored to receive this generous grant for this roadside marker from the Pomeroy Foundation.

The new marker, funded by the Pomeroy Foundation, serves to commemorate this significant history. The Pomeroy Foundation is a private, grant-making foundation based in Syracuse, N.Y., which helps people to celebrate their community’s history through a variety of roadside marker grant programs, including its National Register Signage Grant Program. The Foundation’s grants cover the entire cost of a marker, pole and shipping. The Pomeroy Foundation has funded more than 300 National Register markers and plaques.
