FULTON, NY – The Greater Oswego-Fulton Chamber of Commerce honored its top small businesses of the year Thursday.
Springside at Seneca Hill earned the award for best not-for-profit.
New business of the year went to The Reservoir Inn / Gas & Mart / Redfield Motel.
And, Mitchell Printing & Mailing of Oswego was recognized as the small business of the year.
The family business began in 1930. It is run currently by John and Kathy Henry, third generation.
“I never expected this,” John said. “We’re very honored to receive this; we’re very happy.”
When he was about 8 years old, he began hanging out at the shop.
“My grandfather used to let me ‘work’ and do things. What I realized later was that he was humoring me. I actually thought I was doing work, but gramps probably threw it all out and did the work himself later,” he said with a chuckle. “But, at that age, I thought I was doing something productive, helping gramps out. He was very patient with me.”
“We didn’t expect this,” Kathy agreed. “We really appreciate the honor.”
“We love the Oswego community. We’ve been here a long time. We intend to be here a long time to come,” John said.
Eileen Roosa and Lori Oliver were also surprised to be honored for their Redfield business.
“This was a big surprise,” Roosa said. “And, it really means a lot to us!”
Teresa Ferlito accepted the award for Springside.
“I didn’t even know we were nominated,” she noted. “This was very much a big surprise. It’s such an honor; we’re very grateful to be recognized.”
The award winners thanked those who helped them gain recognition.
However, they added, they couldn’t have done it with the support of their employees and loyal customers; customer service is at the top of the list for having a successful business, they agreed.
