Quilt Quest: Day Camp Quilting Program

Submitted article

Cornell Cooperative Extension of Oswego County 4-H Program will be conducting Quilt Quest, a week-long day camp for youth. Quilt Quest will be held at the Amboy 4-H Environmental Education Center during the week of July 21. The program will meet daily from 10:00 am until noon. The program is open to Oswego County youth ages 11 and older.

Participating youth will each cut out, sew, assemble, and machine quilt to create a small decorative wall hanging. Campers will choose their own colors for the log cabin block pattern from provided material. Mary Matteson, Oswego County 4-H Program Educator and select cooperative extension volunteers will teach this camp using the strip quilting technique.

Quilt Quest is the youth segment of a larger grant funded series called What Came First the Quilt or the Egg. For Quilt Quest, campers will study quilting during the Great Depression. They will explore the fabrics that were used along with learning how the women operated home businesses to earn extra money.

Sewing or quilting experience is not needed for Quilt Quest. All quilting materials and sewing machines will be provided. There is no registration for this program. Class size is limited to 15 youth in order to provide the best learning experience for the campers. To receive detailed information or to register for this program, please contact Cornell Cooperative Extension of Oswego County at 963-7286, ext. 401 or email [email protected] .

This program is made possible with public funds.

Cornell Cooperative Extension of Oswego County provides equal program and employment opportunities. Please contact the office if you have any special needs.
