FULTON – At Tuesday’s (Feb. 23) regular school board meeting, held at G. Ray Bodley High School, the Fulton City School District Board of Education was able to preview the upcoming high school musical presentation, Oklahoma!
Set to hit stage for the public next week on March 3, 4, and 5, the Quirk’s Players have been tirelessly working to perfect their performance and be stage ready.
All their hard work was shown through their small preview for the members of the Board of Education and those in attendance at the meeting, but the Quirk’s Players had another surprise for Superintendent Bill Lynch.
Jeremy Herlowski, the junior starring role playing Curly in the performance, thanked Superintendent Lynch for his many years of support for Quirk’s Players and requested he come on stage to accept an official Quirk’s Players Oklahoma! T-shirt.
While on stage, Herlowski helped Lynch become and honorary member of the performance with a cowboy hat to fit the scene as the cast sang the notable Broadway classic “Oklahoma” with Lynch.
Lynch, noting this may be the highlight of his career, responded to the cast saying, “Thank you, all of you, for pursuing your passion and pursuing what you love, that is what life is all about. On behalf of the district and the community, we are very thrilled for you to share your skills with us.”
The superintendent also acknowledged all the time and hard work that is put into making these performances so wonderful including all members of the cast, crew and staff.
“You’re very talented, and we are all very, very proud of you so thank you very much,” he said.
The Board of Education members were all pleased with the performance and thanked the cast and crew for allowing them to preview their performance.
“That show is over 50 years old and it still stands the test of time,” said board member Barbara Hubbard. “They really did a great job with it tonight.”
The Quirk’s Players will present pieces of their Oklahoma! performance to residences such as The Manor at Seneca Hill and Michaud Residential Health Services later this week as well as to the entire school district next week.
The performance will then open to the public with tickets available at the door for 7:30 p.m. start time on March 3, 4 and 5 with an additional matinee on March 5 at 2 p.m. at the G. Ray Bodley High School Auditorium.
