Spring has sprung at the Sterling Nature Center so come and take a hike.

One of the best ways to cure your spring fever is to “Take a Hike” on one the nature center’s eight trails. Signs of spring are already developing all around us. The great horned owls are incubating their eggs. Other birds have started courtship rituals, woodpeckers can be heard drumming and the black-capped chickadee can be heard singing their spring song. Winter Aconite is blooming in the gardens around the interpretive building and woodland wildflowers are starting to emerge. The deep red of the scarlet cup fungi can be seen scattered over the forest floor. The first migrating birds were observed March 10th, the red-winged blackbird. Male could be seen and heard perch in treetop announcing their arrival and ushering in the spring season of migration. The trails of the Sterling Nature Center are open from dawn-to-dusk every day of the year and there is no admission fee, however, donations are accepted and greatly appreciated. Weekend and evening guided walks and special programs are offered throughout the year, call 315-947-6143, email [email protected] or visit www.cayuganet.org/sterlingpark for more information.
