Oswego County continues to bleed population.
The U.S. Census issued its 2009 population estimates for counties and metropolitan areas this week.
The county lost 174 people from 2008 to 2009, according to the Census. The county’s population stands at 121,377. For the decade, the county peaked in 2004 with 122,802 residents.
The Census takes a detailed survey of population every ten years. The 2000 Census was used as a base for estimating the county’s population in the years in-between, using official records such as births, deaths and migration to and from the county to arrive at a final estimate for the year.
The county’s population change remains fairly small when compared to the rest of the state. Oswego County ranks 48th among the state’s 62 counties in population change. The county is the 24th largest in the state.
The state’s population grew from 2008 to 2009 by more than 73,000 people. Most of the growth was in the boroughs of New York City, though the fastest-growing county is Jefferson County. Fort Drum’s continuing growth is powering the population surge in the Watertown area.

i can’t imagine why, the county, fulton and oswego spend money like its water going over a dam. since when does aby of our governments have a job?
