A tow truck driver was charged Saturday with stealing money from a vehicle involved in an alleged drug arrest.
The Oswego County Sheriff’s Department charged William J. Murray, 51, of 285 Route 48, Fulton with petit larceny and making a false written statement. He was ticketed and released on Saturday afternoon.
The Sheriff’s Department says Murray was driving a tow truck for Don’s Garage on the evening of September 20 when he was called to tow a vehicle that was off the shoulder of Route 3 near Pollard Rd. in the town of Hannibal. Police pulled up to investigate the disabled vehicle, which was using its four-way flashing lights. Inside, they found Brandon P. McConnell, 24, and Carol L. Natarelli, 25, both of 1431 Genesee St., Apt. 307A, Utica. They also allegedly found cocaine, a prescription pill not prescribed to either person, and acid tablets, along with a pocket knife.
They were each charged with felony and misdemeanor criminal possession counts. McConnell was also charged with two misdemeanors.
Police allege that Murray stole approximately $350 from the vehicle. Nothing else was alleged to have been taken. Police claim he made a written statement denying taking anything from the vehicle.
Murray was released on an appearance ticket and is due in town of Granby Court on November 9.
The Sheriff’s Department reports that the alleged theft of money from the vehicle did not compromise the criminal cases against McConnell and Natarelli.
