Use Of City Property Sought For Fishing Tourney

OSWEGO, NY – Gentlemen, cast your lines!

The 2008 Oswego Pro-Am Tournament is set for July 11 – 13.

Recently, at the Physical Services Committee meeting, Dick Bateman, DPW commissioner, requested use of city property on behalf of Dave Turner.

The director of the Oswego County Department of Community Development, Tourism and Planning is seeking permission to place a table at Wright’s Landing Marina for the daily collection of sign-in sheets from team members participating in the fishing event.

He also requested, on behalf of the students of Trinity Catholic School, permission to sell coffee and baked goods at the table during the tournament.

The profits would benefit the school.

“The tournament usually draws about 70 to 80 boats,” Turner said.

This year, they were approached by Trinity Catholic School offering to do some volunteer services.

“They actually came up with the idea of selling coffee and muffins. That worked out perfectly for the tournament because we function mostly on volunteers and it’s difficult to find people for the early morning shift,” he said.

The students were willing to collect the forms from the teams in exchange for the right to have the table and sell the refreshments, he explained.

The city will require a “hold harmless” form to be signed by whoever uses city property.

Details will be worked out between the city attorney and county attorney.

Anglers in the tournament will compete for cash and other prizes.

They will be fishing out of ports in Oswego and Mexico.

The full council will consider the request tonight. missing or outdated ad config
