FULTON, NY – Fulton school district is facing an administrative void at G. Ray Bodley High School.Tuesday evening, the Fulton Board of Education approved the resignation of GRB assistant principal Tina Winkler.
According to Superintendent Bill Lynch, Winkler officially leaves Fulton June 5.
“She has accepted a position with a textbook publishing company that specializes in secondary school publications,” Lynch said. “It is a very good opportunity for her and is a position that she will do very well in.”
During her tenure in Fulton, Winkler was credited for spearheading efforts to create Freshman First Day in 2006 as a way to ease the transition to high school for incoming ninth graders. The program brings incoming ninth graders in Fulton to school one day earlier than the rest of the school to give the new students a day to adjust without the bustle of upperclassmen.
Lynch said that the district is in the process of organizing to start the recruitment process to fill the vacancy.
“We hope to start something up by the end of June,” he said.
“We’d like to be ready with a new administrator in place well before September,” Lynch added. “While that sounds like a long time away, we know it isn’t.”
Rather than make a short-term appointment, Lynch noted that the district currently has several interns that could be used to fill the void at the high school through the end of this school year.
“I have talked with (principal Dennis Dumas) and we think that we could work our way through the Regents exams and graduation with the help of our interns,” Lynch said.
“We are working to sort everything out,” he added.
Fulton Board of Education president Robbin Griffin said that Winkler has been a valued employee during her years in Fulton.
“I wish her much success in her new position,” Griffin said. “We all do. I am sure that she will do very well.”
Winkler could not be reached for comment this morning.
