Lake Effect Snow Warning In Effect Until Thursday At 4 A.M.

OSWEGO COUNTY – The National Weather Service has issued a Lake Effect Snow Warning for northern Oswego County and Cayuga County, including the cities of Oswego and Fair Haven from 10 p.m. Tuesday to 4 a.m. Thursday, February 11.

The NWS predicts heavy lake effect snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 7 to 13 inches in the most persistent lake snows. Travel could be very difficult at times with snow covered roads and poor visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning and evening commutes on Wednesday.

Heavy snow will fall in relatively narrow bands. If traveling, be prepared for rapidly changing road conditions and visibilities.

The NWS forecast (Oswego County Airport, Fulton) is as follows:

Tuesday night: Snow showers likely before midnight, then snow after midnight. The snow could be heavy at times. Low around 21. Northwest wind 8 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Total nighttime snow accumulation of 3 to 5 inches possible.

Wednesday: Snow before noon, then snow showers likely between noon and 4 p.m., then scattered flurries after 4 p.m. The snow could be heavy at times. High near 25. West wind 10 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of 3 to 5 inches possible.

Wednesday night: A chance of snow showers with scattered flurries before midnight, then snow showers likely between midnight and 1 a.m., then snow after 1 a.m. The snow could be heavy at times. Low around 17. West wind 9 to 11 mph becoming north after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible.

Thursday: Snow before 7 a.m., then snow showers likely between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m. High near 23. North wind 8 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.
