OSWEGO, NY – You had to be nuts to be outside for any period of time Monday.
This Scriba squirrel braved temperatures colder than minus 20 degrees to munch on a peanut for breakfast.
According to Bill Gregway, local observer for the National Weather Service, the Port City officially got down to 11 degrees below zero.
Even though it was bitterly cold – it has been worse, he noted.
The record low for Jan. 24 is minus 13 degrees set way back in 1882.
On Jan. 17 the mercury plunged to zero. It was the first time the temperature had been at or below zero since it was minus 6 degrees on Jan. 30, 2010, and minus 1 on Jan. 10 also last year
Temperatures will climb to a more balmy 20 degrees on Tuesday.
Scattered snow showers during the day Tuesday will make for only a little additional accumulation.

Hi Mr. Gregway, My name is Mary Ann and my friend Don and I used to see you walking your pretty dog at the Fort. I’m curious to know if you can tell me how much snow fell in Fulton, NY to date. I can’t seem to find out.
My friend who I was with at the Fort died June 19, 2010 of cancer. It happened so quickly. The Fort was our favorite place to be. It was so relaxing to see the Great Lake, the sunsets, and making new friends from all over the world. Those things happened just by us sitting in our car or at a picnic table at that historic site. We even took a couple who were on a cruise on a tour of the area. They invited us on the cruise ship and treated us to dessert and coffee.

Hi Bill, It hasn’t been much warmer here in North Carolina this winter. I enjoy reading your weather report in the paper.
