OSWEGO, NY – Senator Darrell Aubertine will stop in Oswego next month to announce grant funding for the Port City.
The senator will be in Oswego’s Civic Plaza (if the weather is nice) at 4:30 p.m., according to Mayor Randy Bateman to announce the $1.2 million award.
In case of inclement weather, the event will be held in the Council Chambers.
The public is invited to the press conference.
The grant award is from the NYS Regional Economic Development Program through the Dormitory Authority of the state.
The funding will assist the city’s DPW in making some needed equipment purchases, according to Commissioner Mike Smith.
The city will use the funds for various pieces of equipment such as two 2008 plow/sander trucks, one 2009 Vactor sewer cleaning machine, one 2009 loader, one 2009 street sweeper, and one 2009 backhoe, the mayor said.
In other business at Monday’s council meeting, aldermen authorized the mayor to execute all documents necessary with the New York State Department of Transportation for the Utica Street Bridge Rehabilitation Project.
And he was also authorized to execute all documents necessary with the DOT for the installation, maintenance, repair and energizing of the Utica Street Bridge Lighting System.
As part of the project, the state has agreed to provide the following items in connection with a street lighting system:
Under bridge duct system – including conduits – pull boxes and hand holes
And, light standards and bracket arms
The items will be state property.
The city agrees to maintain, repair and energize the lighting system for 20 years.
Councilors also approved several requests for the use of public space:
Michelle King, owner of commercial property at 125, 127 and 129 E. First St., in order to install canopies
Paul LaPlante, owner and occupant of a single-family dwelling at 1 Ontario St., in order to install a parking pad
Mary Miller, owner and occupant of a single-family dwelling at 83 E. Fifth St., in order to enclose an existing porch.
The council also granted use of a portion of Fort Ontario for a “Boot Camp†training program on Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning Sept. 29, sponsored by Shirley Davis.
And, they council appointed Matthew Brancato to the Board of Assessment Review for a five-year term, as his current term expires Sept. 30.
