OSWEGO, NY – Aaron Callahan is headed to Washington, DC later this month to attend the National Young Leaders Conference.
Canale’s Restaurant will help him raise funds for the trip on March 22.
The restaurant, 156 W. Utica St., (343-3540) will hold a special benefit for Aaron from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Buy any meal that day, dine-in, take-out, delivery or frozen dinners and Canale’s will donate 20% for Aaron’s expenses for the conference.
A coupon must be presented at time of purchase to qualify. Coupons are available at the river’s end bookstore (West First and Bridge streets) and Oswego High School’s main and guidance offices.
“Things are going great. There is definitely going to be a sizeable amount for The Haiti Relief Fund,” Aaron said referring to his pledge to donate any funds he raises above what he needs for the trip to the Haitian relief effort. “The Youth Advisory Council’s Gertrude Hawk Chocolate bar sales ($1 each) are going gangbusters.”
That fund-raiser began last week and continues through Easter.
“I had the idea to have a table in the lobby at local school concerts from March 17 to 29. The first one was last week at OHS,” Aaron explained. “Normally, there is no one doing this, ever, at the concerts, which gave me the idea. The audience loves it, a treat before, during, and after the concert.”
The Canale’s restaurant fundraiser is this Monday, Aaron said, adding, “I tried to keep it away from St. Patrick’s Day. Hope the weather is OK.”
Also, Assemblyman Will Barclay will honor Aaron next month.
Barclay contacted Aaron and has asked him to meet with him on April 9, after the conference, to discuss how it went and what he learned.
He will present Aaron with a certificate of recognition and then they will then do a photo op, and this will be featured in the assemblyman’s monthly newsletter, “Outstanding Students in the Community.â€Â
