City of Oswego to Host Community Safety Day on August 7th

OSWEGO – The Oswego Fire Department, Oswego Police Department, and the Oswego County Traffic Safety Board will partner to host a Community Safety Day on Friday, August 7, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Oswego Fire Department Headquarters, 35 East Cayuga Street, Oswego.

This free, family-friendly event is designed to promote safety through hands-on education, interactive activities, and valuable community resources. Several local public safety and public service agencies will be supporting the event. The event will feature a Bicycle Rodeo, where children can test and improve their riding skills through a fun obstacle course while learning the rules of the road and the importance of wearing a properly fitted helmet. Firefighters, Police Officers, and Traffic Safety Professionals will provide bicycle safety education, inspections, and tips to help young riders stay safe. Certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians will also be on-site conducting free child safety seat inspections and installations. Parents and caregivers are encouraged to bring their child and vehicle to ensure their car seat is properly installed and appropriate for their child’s age, height, and weight.

“Our goal is to provide families with practical safety information in a fun and engaging environment,” said Oswego Fire Chief Paul Conzone. “Whether it’s teaching children how to ride safely or helping parents ensure their child’s car seat is installed correctly, these simple steps can prevent injuries and save lives. We encourage everyone to stop by and take advantage of these free services.”

The event is being held in support of “Safe Oswego” – A Community Risk Reduction Initiative that focuses on identifying local risks and implementing programs that reduce preventable emergencies through education, prevention, and strategic partnerships. There is no cost to attend, and all members of the community are welcome.
