OSWEGO – The free Community Safety Day, a hands-on safety event featuring Oswego Fire, Oswego Police Department, US Army, Oswego Health, The Red Cross, Youth Bureau, Move Along and several others, was held Saturday outside the Oswego Fire Department Headquarters.
Youngsters took part in demonstrations such as obstacle bike course, impaired driver tests and hands-on operation of a fire hose. They also learned about fire extinguisher use, emergency medical and rescue procedures, crime prevention strategies and more community resources information.
All the while the youngsters were having fun, they were also getting an education in safety.
“Our goal is to provide the community with safety tips through education, while having a little fun along the way,” said Oswego Fire Department Lt. Paul Conzone, an organizer of the event.
