OSWEGO – Today (Oct. 30), 25-year-old Marquis Andrews of Oswego was sentenced seven years in state prison and 10 years post-release supervision upon his felony convictions for two counts of Sexual Abuse in the First Degree. He was also sentenced to one year for two separate misdemeanor counts of Sexual Abuse in the Second Degree.

Andrews was convicted after a jury trial that was held the week of September 25, in Oswego County Court before the Hon. Donald E. Todd.
Prosecutors alleged that Andrews subjected a female child to unwanted sexual contact on two occasions during the Summer and Fall of 2016.
The victim was 12-years-old during the first incident and had turned 13 years old by the second incident.
Assistant District Attorney Courtney Haviland prosecuted the case for the Oswego County District Attorney’s Office.
Attorney Michael Cianfarano of Oswego and Attorney Edward Dunn of Marcellus represented Andrews at trial.
After sentencing, District Attorney Gregory Oakes commended the victim for her bravery throughout the proceedings.
Oakes said, “She showed tremendous courage and fought hard to make sure the truth came out. I’m incredibly proud of her.”
Oakes said that he hopes this case provides encouragement to other victims who want to disclose their own sexual abuse, adding “Police and prosecutors are willing to listen, to believe, and to help.”
The District Attorney thanked the Oswego Police Department and the Oswego County Child Advocacy Center for their assistance throughout the case.
“This conviction represents the hard work of many agencies, and I’m so grateful for the collaborative efforts of our Multi-Disciplinary Team,” Oakes said.
