Leighton School Invites All Veterans To Veterans’ Day Celebration

OSWEGO – Calling all veterans!

On Thursday, Nov 9, Leighton Elementary School will host a Veterans’ Day celebration.

“We’ll hold an assembly at 9 a.m. in the gymnasium. We will have presentation/representation from each of the branches of military,” Jennifer Cahill, one of the organizers, told Oswego County Today. “Students will be singing the branches’ military anthems.”

The students would like to invite all veterans in the community.

“There are so many members of our community that our students see every day that are veterans and we really want students to realize this,” Cahill said.

Students, staff and faculty are being asked to bring a veteran to school.

“We want our veterans to know that our young people appreciate them and all their sacrifices” Cahill said.

Veterans interested in participating are asked to RSVP her at [email protected] by November 7.

The celebration will feature guest speakers from: Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines as well as Veterans of Foreign Wars and Team RWB (Red, White, Blue).

Other activities that day will include a presentation of pins from students to veteran family members and a presentation of gifts to community veterans.

Service songs will be performed by the Leighton students.

An “Artifacts Museum” of military equipment will be on display.

And, there will be a MRE (meals ready to eat) demonstrations during lunch. missing or outdated ad config
