OSWEGO, NY – On Sunday, May 21, a pancake breakfast to support the Erie Canal Bicentennial Theater Play will be held at Lake City Lodge 127.
The breakfast buffet will feature the lodge’s famous French toast.
The lodge, 765 E. Seneca St., holds a breakfast event every third Sunday of every month.
Serving will be from 8 a.m. until noon.
Adults $8, kids 6-11 $6, 5 and younger free.
All you can eat from the huge selection.
The menu includes pancakes, French toast, eggs, bacon, sausage, home fries, coffee, tea, milk, orange juice and all the fixin’s – even real butter.
A book sale will be held at the breakfast.
Bring friends, relatives, spouses, kids – everyone welcome. Funds raised support community groups, Masonic Charities and lodge benevolent efforts.
Recently, the city approved the “Erie Canal Bicentennial Theater Play” to take place in Oswego on the canal.
The Masons of Oswego are major sponsors funding this public performance along with Canal Corp, Pathfinder and the city of Oswego.
The Masons of Oswego County also celebrate their bicentennial in Oswego County.
Members of the Masonic organization were behind the largest contributions to our country (George Washington, Ben Franklin, etc) and Oswego is no exception. The first bridge, City Hall, Kingsford Starch, many other – all Masons and mostly unknown history.
Every year, Masons give what is known as the Dewitt Clinton Award. He was the “father of the Erie Canal.”
He was also mayor of NYC, Governor of NYS and Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of New York.
The Bicentennial Canal Theatre Project to be held August 18. The venue for the performance will be the Derrick Boat 8 that’s docked at the museum. The vessel was used in the maintenance and operation of the NYS Barge Canal.
The production will be directed by Steven York, and is an original dramatic play written by Oswego native Rick Sivers.
The project has already received some outside financial support. The city’s share will be $4,000 or less depending on the amount the organizers fundraise between now and the event.
