Mayor Barlow Lifts State of Emergency for City of Oswego

OSWEGO – Mayor Billy Barlow has lifted the State of Emergency in the city of Oswego and has lifted the travel advisory put in place during yesterday’s (Dec. 27) winter storm.

Residents may resume travel and the normal winter parking laws are now back in effect.

Mayor Barlow praised the efforts of the Oswego Department of Public Works for their around the clock response to the storm and says the city will focus on snow removal in the comings days.

“This storm was unique because of the intense snowfall in such a short period of time. We received approximately three feet of snow in a matter of hours and still managed to improve the condition of our streets throughout the morning and afternoon,” Barlow said. “We had all city resources deployed, managed to clear the streets by late afternoon and will begin the snow removal process starting today (Dec. 28) to cut back snowbanks, clear downtown and tend to our busy intersections. I appreciate the assistance from Governor Cuomo, New York State Department of Transportation and our Department of Public Works, Oswego Fire Department and Oswego Police Department. Most importantly, I appreciate the cooperation and patience displayed by Oswego city residents throughout the day yesterday.”

“Our residents obeyed the restrictions of the State of Emergency and allowed our DPW crews to work as efficiently as possible,” he added. “Please continue to travel with caution, clear nearby fire hydrants and be patient as we continue to clean our streets and remove snow in the coming days.”

The city of Oswego winter parking ban law is still in effect for the winter months with no overnight parking on city streets from midnight to 6 a.m.

  1. Looks like Oswego has a new place to cash checks, get loans, and make deposits. “The Snow Bank” is officially open as of today with a location near you.

  2. VERY impressive (as always). Not sure people who have lived here always appreciate HOW ABSOLUTELY TERRIFIC our DPW is! It was DAYS in Syracuse before we were able to travel…I remember those times of being snowbound…so I MORE than appreciate what they do, and the extras liking cutting down the snowbanks right after they clear the sidewalks and bridges and, of course, streets!

And, just joking, but was Governor Cuomo here helping us shovel out? Ho Ho Ho!

  3. Time to take those young punks out for some work from O,C,J. have them do some shoveling for old people, tax payers pay to feed these peiople so let them earn their keep,

  4. Come clear the end of my driveway. I pay taxes just like downtown. Can’t see around the snow banks at the end of my driveway. Ahhh that will never happen.

  5. It’s a reminder how vital our DPW is and how hard they work. Truth be told, the streets would have been cleared sooner if Mayor Barlow had not cut the OT to begin with. As a tax payer, I’m all for saving my hard earned money and stretching it as far as it will go, but in these months of winter, I’m sorry sir but we NEED every bit of man power we have!
