Mayor Robert A. Corradino Invites Selma Sheridan, M.D. to City Hall

Painting and Painter - Frank Kraft - November 2000

OSWEGO –  Mayor Robert A. Corradino invited Selma Sheridan, M.D. to City Hall recently for a commemorative photo with the recently installed plaque recognizing the painting Selma commissioned in honor of Fort Ontario refugees.

This painting is a Frank J. Kraft original, capturing the historical significance and vital importance that Oswego’s Fort Ontario played during World War II being the country’s only refugee shelter during the Holocaust. This watercolor painting was commissioned by Selma and donated to the Safe Haven Holocaust Museum in 2000 during her time as a board member.

In 2023, the painting was presented to Oswego City Hall by the Safe Haven Museum under Mayor Barlow’s administration. The painting is hung on the 2nd floor, across from the Common Council Chambers.

Selma and Mayor Corradino stood for a photo as another thank you to Selma for the work she commissioned, showcasing and further memorializing the journey nearly 1,000 refugees took to safety for the chance at new life here in Oswego, New York.
