OSWEGO, NY – After hitting 78 degrees on Monday, temperatures are expected to nosedive around 20 degrees the rest of this week.
“We reached 78 degrees around 1:30 p.m. Monday,” said Bill Gregway, the local observer for the National Weather Service. “That broke the old record of 76 degrees in 1945. It hasn’t been that warm since it was 77 degrees on Sept. 28, 2010.”
The last time it reached 70 degrees or more in the Port City area was Oct. 27, 2010, when it was 70 degrees; the previous day it topped out at 72 degrees.
From April 10 through 13, the record highs were all set in 1945, Gregway pointed out. Monday was the first time that streak was snapped, he said.
“We reached 72 degrees by noon,” Gregway said. “But, by about 2:30 p.m. things began to cool off. Also, we received just a trace of precipitation.”
