OSWEGO, NY – At its meeting this week, the Administrative Services Committee recommended the mayor sign an agreement with National Grid regarding the transfer of the lighting system assets at the Midtown Parking Garage.
And, Mike Riley, purchasing agent, further requested authorization for the mayor to sign all agreements with National Grid concerning lighting system retrofits under the small business services program.
The city and National Grid have been involved in negotiations for the past several years concerning a transfer of lighting assets at the garage. The current lighting installation consists of 76 175w mercury vapor wall pack units on the lower level and four 400w HPS shoe-box light poles on the upper level.
National Grid has offered to sell the lighting assets to the city for $5,000, subject to PSC approval.
The garage has been qualified under the Small Business Services Program for a lighting retrofit, which will provide an estimated annual savings of 100,00kwh – and an estimated annual savings of $11,000 is usage charges (delivery and commodity).
The city would also realize a savings in facility charges of approximately $14,000 per year.
The cost of the retrofit is less than $10,000.
The payback period for the cost of the asset transfer and lighting system retrofit would be less than eight months, according to the purchasing agent.
The full council will consider the matter on Monday night.
