Oswego Residents Can Dump Excess Snow and Ice at Designated Lot

OSWEGO – Residents will now be allowed to dump excess snow on city property. The location will be 410-420 W 1st Street. While this is not a permanent solution, the council felt it necessary to establish an area to deposit snow and ice.

The lot is where Leon Shapiro Motors used to be. Residents must first fill out a waiver before depositing snow, to protect the city from liability. Residents can get the form from the clerk’s office located at 13 W Oneida St.

City Attorney Kevin Caraccioli spoke on the matter. “The significant snow fall and the accumulation of snow that is impacting residents in daily life necessitates the use of public property to deposit snow from private properties,” said Caraccioli.

The lot is the same lot where Leon Shapiro Motors used to be. Residents must first fill out a waiver before depositing snow, to protect the city from liability.

It should be noted that the lot may be used for something else next year, so it should not be expected to function the same. The council plans to establish a more permanent solution in the future.

Mayor Robert Corradino wanted to thank city workers during his mayoral report. “The dedication and hard work displayed by the police, fire department and department of public works were nothing short of outstanding,” said Corradino.

The mayor thanked Highway Superintendent Shawn Walker for loaning the city equipment, and a snow blower loaned to them by the state. Corradino also thanked Oswego residents for allowing city workers to do their job in clearing the snow.

Bill Myer spoke during the open session tonight. Myer and his wife have invested a lot of money in their Christmas decorations, so he asked Police Chief Phillip Cady if they could send someone by occasionally to deter vandalism.

“It’s worked great, no damage,” said Myer, “at this time I’d like to express my deep appreciation for the police presence, and a very large thank you to Chief Cady and the entire police department for helping to keep my decoration safe.”
