The event is PCRD’s season closer.

It will once again benefit SAVE Central NY (Suicide Awareness Voices of Education).

“SAVE is a cause that is close to PCRD’s heart because of the organization’s connection with one of our former derby sisters,” explained Sarah Ada (aka Darth Vada), PCRD Media/Marketing.

The event will be held at Crisifulli Ice Rink on Saturday.

Doors open at 5 p.m.

The first whistle will be at 6 p.m.

Advanced tickets are $10; $12 at the door.

Kids 12 and under are free.

Anyone can contact our Facebook page or [email protected] for advance tickets or for more information.

“This Saturday is the 7th year in a row Port City Roller Derby is fighting to end suicide,” said former PCRD member Jamie Leszczynski. “I used to actually play on the team and since the first year of SAVE Central NY, they have always been supportive. A portion of their proceeds from all ticket sales will actually be donated to prevent suicide and bring awareness to mental health in Oswego County.”

Leszczynski lost her brother to suicide 15 years ago. She is making strides to assist those who have gone through what she’s experienced and, hopefully, save others from the ordeal.

She is the chair for Save Central NY, a charter of SAVE.

“SAVE Central NY is gearing up for our 7th Annual Stride to SAVE Lives event at SUNY Oswego on September 30. So the proceeds from this bout will go towards our fundraising goal,” she said.

  1. —reduce the stigma associated with mental illness ???

Stop associating it, please, that is a far better action to take. Declaring it helps no one and harms many.
