OSWEGO, NY – Oswego Town and the city of Oswego have differing views concerning the ambulance contract between the two municipalities.
In a statement today (Dec. 23) to the media, the town board said the contract is intact through Dec. 31, 2012.
“In light of the recent media coverage, we the Oswego Town Board, would like to make a short statement to our town residents,” the note said. “We have an ambulance agreement between the Common Council of the City of Oswego and the Town Board of the Town of Oswego. Neither the Council nor the Town Board has passed a Resolution to terminate the agreement.”
However, Oswego Mayor Randy Bateman sees thing differently.
“The town notified the city on Nov. 29 of its official 30-day notice that they want to cancel the existing ambulance contract between the town and the city,” he said.
The letter was accepted by the council earlier this month, the mayor said, adding the city also rejected the town’s proposal to continue the ambulance service through 2011 on a month-to-month basis as the town seeks a deal with another ambulance service.
“The city has offered the town a new proposal. But so far I haven’t heard back from (Supervisor Vicky Mullen),” Bateman said. “It’s up to the town whether to accept the new deal or move ahead with finding a new ambulance service.”
As far as the city’s concerned, the current deal will expire Dec. 31, 2010, as per the supervisor’s letter, the mayor said.
“We have a new proposal from the mayor and I believe the town board will accept it at the next meeting,” .Supervisor Mullen said
