Upon investigation, it was determined that a female suspect allegedly fled out the front door of the business with a “tip jar” that had been on the counter, police said.

An employee of the business gave chase, caught the suspect momentarily and recovered the tip jar without the money that the jar originally contained.

The suspect then reportedly ran away again.

The employee returned to the business to call 911.

It was then discovered that the employee’s purse was also missing from behind the counter.

Officers canvassed the area and, within a few minutes, located a woman fitting the suspect description and she was subsequently identified as the suspect from the larceny.

The suspect, 24-year-old Rheanna A. Hibbard of Oswego, was taken into custody.

All of the reportedly stolen property was recovered.

The suspect was arraigned today (April 13) in Oswego City Court on a charge of fourth-degree grand larceny (E felony).

Upon arraignment, Hibbard was remanded to Oswego County Jail in lieu of $1,000 bail / $2,000 bond with a return court date of April 27.

“I give a lot of credit to the employee who initially chased after the suspect. However, it is not something that I would recommend. I would highly suggest to anyone who is in a similar position to be a good witness and immediately call 911,” Police Chief Mike Dehm said. “Even in this instance, once the victim called 911 our officers were able to locate the suspect, make the arrest, and recover all of the stolen property. I couldn’t have asked for a better outcome.”
