OSWEGO – The City of Oswego Fire Department presented several special recognition and achievement awards at a recent ceremony held at the Oswego High School’s Robinson-Faust Theater. The Promotional and Awards Ceremony honored new hires, recent promotions in rank, and special recognition awards for the Oswego Fire Department and the Oswego Police Department.

Oswego Fire Chief Paul Conzone stated, “It is critically important to recognize the hard work and dedication demonstrated each day by our Firefighters – to let them know that their sacrifices do not go unnoticed, and that they are appreciated. Further, we have several high performers who consistently raise the bar, make the right decisions in adverse conditions, and characterize the very best qualities of their profession. These Firefighters deserve special recognition and praise, and presenting these awards in front of their families and peers is a great way to show our appreciation.”

City of Oswego Mayor Robert Corradino addressed the crowd at the ceremony by saying, “Tonight is an opportunity to reflect on the sacrifices and contributions of our Officers and Firefighters. Your commitment to our city is unparalleled, and your bravery and resilience inspires us all. The work you do every day ensures that Oswego remains a safe, welcoming, and thriving community. For that, we owe you our deepest gratitude. Thank You, and congratulations to all. Let’s continue to make Oswego a city we are all proud to call home.”

Several new Firefighters were welcomed to the City of Oswego Fire Department at the ceremony and were sworn in by Mayor Corradino. Following the reciting of their oath of office, each Firefighter was pinned with their badge by family members.

The Oswego Fire Department presented three members with Distinguished Service Medals for their actions in emergency incidents. The Distinguished Service Medal is awarded to those Firefighters who perform an unusual act of distinction under adverse conditions and in the performance of duty. Oswego Fire Department Captain John Geraci was presented two Distinguished Service Medals for his actions during a water rescue, and a structure fire. Firefighters Daniel Sparkowski and Jacob Mulcahey were awarded Distinguished Service Medals for their work in rescuing a family pet from a house fire.
