OSWEGO TOWN – SHOP at SUNY Oswego will be undergoing some further renovations to make the area more welcoming to those who come to take advantage of its resources.

SHOP is located on the lower level of Penfield Library, in room three on the SUNY Oswego campus.

Intern and coordinator Kayla Murphy describes SHOP as, “a one stop shop for our SUNY Oswego community members that need access to these necessities.”

Necessities that include food pantry items, including a gluten free section, toiletries and clothing.

Murphy is excited to soon be introducing her new project which will include a clothing drive for business attire.

“In one of my business classes someone failed the whole class because he wore jeans to the final presentation” Murphy said. “So, if someone can’t afford it they should be able to have it available to them.”

SHOP is a fairly new program to the campus and all those involved are excited to get the word out about the resources that SHOP has to offer.

In addition to the more traditional methods of advertisement such as fliers, digital signage and posting it to Laker Life which is the website for the student organizations on campus.

Murphy said that SHOP is going to be working hard to make a physical appearance on campus.

This will include tabling in Marano Campus Center as well as teaming with different organizations who will volunteer and help spread the word.

Alpha Phi Omega is a national community service fraternity on campus.

The SUNY Oswego chapter, Epsilon Nu is excited about working with SHOP to plan a day were different APO members can cycle through and volunteer their services at the SHOP, vice president of service Caitlin Galvin said.

Though APO is a specific organization that is planning to get involved, all volunteers are welcome.

SHOP is open every day of the week and any volunteers are more than welcome.

To volunteer at SHOP, get in touch with Murphy by emailing [email protected]

There is training that must be completed prior to being able to volunteer all of which can be conducted by Murphy upon request.

Currently, Murphy is the only intern/coordinator but she has already recruited 10 volunteers with about 30 other people who are interested in helping out.

Murphy assures that there is always room for more help for those who want to get involved.

Whether through hands-on volunteer work or through help with conducting food, clothing and toiletry drives throughout the semester.

SHOP is a resource for all SUNY Oswego community members.

Murphy hopes to do a campaign further in the semester to ensure that all off-campus students are aware of these resources and that they can access them with ease.

SHOP is dedicated to helping whoever needs assistance.

There is no limit on how many supplies or items you can take.

There also accommodations for students who do not feel comfortable exiting through the library with their items where they can exit through a back door that staff members and volunteers can unlock.

SUNY Oswego understands that finances can be difficult.

Tuition, meal plan, room fee, internet, books and supplies can add up to a lot.

The creators of SHOP understand this and hope that SHOP will help alleviate some of this stress for the SUNY Oswego community members. missing or outdated ad config
