Volunteers Spruce Up Minetto, Great Bear

MINETTO, NY – Fourteen volunteers participated in Canal Clean Sweep during Oswego County’s recent Earth Week.

The group worked at a “spruce up” of the River View Park and did a litter pickup covering more than a mile south, starting from Lock O-3 and the bridge, covering both sides of the Route 48, along the Oswego Canal and River.

Participating, but missing from the photos were: Gloria and Frank Bickle, Marilyn Seago, Colleen Dristle, Mark and Nancy Prarie.

Then, on Saturday, Canal Clean Sweep and Oswego Earth Week projects took place at Great Bear Springs Recreational Area.

Sixteen people participated in trail work at Great Bear.

As part of Canal Clean Sweep, a group of 12 volunteers from Entergy, Boy Scout Troop 715 and Friends of Great Bear cut and cleared overgrowth along the southern portion of the historic Oswego Canal tow path.

Opening up this section allows for a nice usable section along the Oswego River, south.

Four Friends of Great Bear, using wheel barrows, hauled, spread and compacted crusher out to and onto more than four long sections of the 440 Trail that have been extremely muddy.

To haul the crusher is a challenge and much was hauled.

Gutters were cleaned to allow drainage again.
