OSWEGO, NY – Robert Wilmott (Republican) of 173 E. Fifth St. has announced his candidacy for councilor of Oswego’s Fourth Ward.
After graduating from Oswego High School in 1986, Wilmott began his career in the field of construction, working for a local general contractor.

“Recent code enforcement efforts in the city of Oswego hit close to home for me, as I look back on my first decade of work in our community and the positive impact it had. I look forward to drawing upon my construction experience and background to help the city find solutions to code enforcement and infrastructure challenges,” said Wilmott.
In 1998 Wilmott became a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters’ Local 277 and he is currently employed as a council representative for the Northeast Regional Council of Carpenters, which represents 40,000 carpenters.
Wilmott believes his experience as a council representative makes him uniquely qualified to serve on the Common Council.
“I interact with my fellow carpenters on a daily basis, looking into their concerns and working to resolve any issues they may have. I will provide the same level of service to my neighbors in the Fourth Ward and work to bring a constituent-centered focus to the city council,” said Wilmott.
Wilmott also serves as a delegate to the Northeast Regional Council of Carpenters.
“I am proud of what I’ve accomplished throughout my career and I look forward to bringing that experience and a strong work ethic to my position on the city council,” Wilmott said.
“I am committed to serving the residents of the Fourth Ward and the entire city, while continuing current efforts to make Oswego a great place to live, work, raise a family and to visit.”
Wilmott emphasized the importance of his lifelong ties to the community, his knowledge, and his experience.
“I am confident that I can serve the community, while working directly with the mayor and other councilors to keep the city headed in the right direction and to continue improving the quality of life for its residents,” Wilmott said.
