OSWEGO, NY – The Gardens by Morningstar had its official ribbon cutting on February 8.  The Gardens is a 106-bed assisted living facility with 77 Medicaid ALP beds and 29 private adult home beds.

The four-year long project began in 2012 when owners Atom Avery and Joseph Murabito were awarded the beds by the New York State Department of Health.  Atom Avery owner of Avery Rental Properties in Oswego provides more than 100 units of residential space throughout the Oswego community.  Joseph Murabito is the owner and operator of Morningstar Care Center, a 120-bed skilled nursing facility in Oswego and Waterville Residential Care Center, a 92-bed skilled nursing facility in Waterville NY.  The Gardens, located at 132 Ellen St. in Oswego, has a long and significant history in the community.

In the mid 1850s the site was an orphanage, later a men’s dormitory, followed by a nursing home for more than 40 years.

“We are proud to carry on a tradition of caring at this address,” Avery said. “Prior to the Gardens there was only 60 ALP beds in Oswego County.  We are filling a great need in this area.”

The former Loretto facility has been fully repurposed and elegantly designed and decorated and provides a beautiful and home like residence with all the support services associated with assisted living such as nursing care, dining services, housekeeping and laundry services and activities.

The building is spacious and offers beautiful common spaces such as a wellness center, barber/beauty salon, bar and lounge area, computer lab, dining areas on each floor, spa-like bathing facilities equipped with whirlpool tubs and flat screen TVs and the list goes on.

It is our goal for the Gardens to be an active resource for the community.  Our Wellness Center, social and meeting spaces and combined our ability to provide home care services throughout the community are opportunities for developing a strong presence in Oswego County.  Through active collaboration and cooperation with Morningstar Care Center, we broaden our footprint and become a comprehensive and high quality provider of post-acute care no matter what services an individual may need – or where they need it,” Murabito said.

Both Avery and Murabito note and appreciate the community support they have received along the way, specifically Pathfinder Bank, Oswego Health Home Care, Mike Treadwell at the Oswego County IDA, to name a few on a long list of supporters.

They couldn’t have done this without everyone’s support and they really appreciate everyone’s positive energy and support, the business partners agreed.

They are grateful to be here and have the opportunity to provide this service to the community and create 50 new jobs, they added.

There will be an open house at The Gardens on March 12 from 1-4 p.m.

Look for more information in the weeks to come.
