OSWEGO COUNTY – Oswego County Legislature Chairman James Weatherup briefed county residents today during his biweekly video. Today he discussed pediatric COVID-19 vaccines and National Hospice Month.

He began the update by offering his condolences to the loved ones of county residents who have recently died from COVID-19.

Weatherup also said the county’s positive case numbers of COVID-19 have significantly jumped, and the increase in cases is affecting the county’s youth as well. He said in the last eight days, there have been 67 new positive cases in children aged 5 to 11, which is 12% of the new cases the county reported this week.

“I urge parents to get their children vaccinated,” Weatherup said.

The county is working with ConnextCare to offer pediatric vaccination clinics in school districts in the county. He said appointments are required and districts have sent out links to families to sign up. Families can also call their district or the Oswego County COVID-19 hotline to register.

More information on the ConnextCare pediatric vaccine clinics can be found here.

“Help us protect those who are not eligible for the vaccine and are at greater risk for hospitalization and death,” Weatherup said. “If you’re eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine but not vaccinated, I urge you to get your shot.”

He said while families and communities traditionally gather in November to give thanks, he also wants to show appreciation for caregivers this month, which is National Hospice Month. Across the U.S. nearly 1.5 million people with a life limiting illness are cared for by hospice workers. They help patients and their families focus on life and making meaningful moments.

Weatherup encourages residents to learn more about hospice care and to make the most of their time with loved ones by participating in local activities.
