OSWEGO, NY – Doris A. Woodard, 80, a former resident of Harbor House Condominiums in Oswego, passed away Sunday Sept. 6, 2009, at St. Luke Health Services.
Mrs. Woodard was born in Fort Totton (Long Island), NY, the daughter of the late Christian and Gertrude (Hall) Nelson.
She was the wife of the late Don A. Woodard, who died in 1995.
After marrying, she and her husband lived in Syracuse for several years. They moved to Oswego in 1956.
She was a graduate of Drew Seminary and of the Powelson Business School.
Prior to her retirement, Mrs. Woodard was employed as a motor vehicle clerk with the Oswego County Department of Motor Vehicles.
She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the Oswego County Historical Society, Aurora, and the Church of the Resurrection in Oswego.
Mrs. Woodard had a love of genealogy and family history, and was a member of the Oswego County Genealogy Society.
She loved traveling to visit her family.
She is survived by three daughters, Kathleen (David) Griffin of San Rafael, California, Christine (Robert) Lighthall of Oswego and Karen (Stephen) DeStephen of Columbus, Ohio; a son, James (Janice) Woodard II of Hudson, Ohio; 11 grandchildren, Heather, Mia, James, Robert, Jared, Sara, Stacey, Christopher, Gregory, Michael, and Jessica; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, at the Church of the Resurrection in Oswego.
Burial will be in Onondaga Valley Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, at the Dain-Cullinan Funeral Home, 112 E. Second St., Oswego.

MY heart goes out to you at the time of your loss. I worked with your MOM for many many years. She was a great lady and will truly be missed. She has gone to be with her DON where they will continue their love. She was a classy lady and loved my many. Prayers are with you all .
I’m writing this with tears rolling down my face. Doris was a true lady. There wasn’t a mean, jealous bone in her body. I still remember the years we worked together how family orientated she was. I remember how proud she was when “Bobby Beemer” came along. Then there was the time at the bridal shower that the table collapsed and everything went flying. Funny now, but, not then. She handled it with such dignity. I guess that’s why the incident stayed with me all these years. I’m so sorry she has left you. I know she’ll be missed very much & I can’t imagine your grief right now. She was the family rock. PS: It’s a nice picture of her & exactly as I still picture her. Good choice.
