Francine Naioti Canale of Fulton died Sunday at University Hospital.
She was born in Manhattan to the late Francis and Marion Champagne. She has been a resident of Fulton for most of her life. Mrs. Canale retired from the Fulton consolidated School System after her service for several years as a History Teacher at the Fulton Junior High School. She was an avid reader and supporter of the library.
Mrs. Canale enjoyed gardening and animals. She was well known for completing the morning crossword puzzle in pen. Mrs. Canale was a loyal fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Detroit Tigers, and Notre Dame College Football team. She loved children and acted as a mother to many.
She was pre-deceased by her first husband Barney Naioti and second husband Ben Canale.
She is survived by her son Barney (Tina) Naioti of Fulton, and her daughter Terri (Rod) Alzmann of West Islip, NY, her brother Bradley (Lou) Champagne of Syracuse, and 4 grandchildren: Jessica, Rod, Jaime, and Andrew.
Funeral Services will be held at 8:30 AM Saturday in the Sugar Funeral Home, Inc. and 9:00 AM in Holy Trinity Church where a mass of Christian burial will be celebrated. Burial will be held in St. Peter’s Cemetery, Oswego. Calling hours will be conducted 4:00 to 7:00 PM Friday in the Sugar Funeral Home, Inc., 224 W. 2nd St. S. Fulton.

Mrs Naioti Canale was one of my favorite teachers in school. Thanks to her I continued my love of Social Studies. My prayers are with you all at this time
I will remember her for her zeal in teaching, her love for her students and the way she taught history…she made it fun, interesting and god help me if it didn’t become my favorite…..”Miss Haste, can you tell me who was the 23rd President and if you can”t you better have a good reason”….my response..”Benjamin Harrison, he was between Grover Cleveland and Grover Cleveland”…she threw her arms around me and said yes young lady yes!!! Mrs. Naioti was one of my favorite teachers. I had her for 8th Grade Social Studies in 1982-83 and as the other posters have said, she made learning fun and her class was always my favorite of the day. She will be missed.
I have only met her a few times,but in those times I could tell just how kind hearted she was.I know that Jessica her grandaughter was a big part of heart.Jess,if you happen to read this I am so deeply sorry I know how close the two of you were.I know sorry doesnt take away the pain and the hurt but just know im thinking of you and im ALWAYS here if you need anything!
To the family, sory to hear of your loss. I had Mrs. Naioti for 8th grade social studies in 1996-97…she was one of those teachers that everyone requested and wanted…she was a great teacher and wonderful person who will be missed. My prayers are with you…
Words will never adequately express how much she will be missed, and the depth that she was loved by so many students over the course of her many years of teaching.
everytime i think of her…i think of all the students that were her heart…God I love you Grandma and miss you so much and wish you were still here to see how good I am doing and meet your great grandson…as I cry into this dumb computer aimlessly trying to reach you, deep down I know you’re right here by my side…I just miss you so much in this world. Still missing you Grams…I’m graduating from College Saturday…only because you said you’d be there when I did 😉 and it was cake. God I miss you and I sure hope I’m making you proud. Life gets fast and monotonous and scary and hurtful…but then something happens and I remember…I remember what matters most…love. life. and how we spend it. Stay close, girlfriend.
